OPEN-AIR INSTALLATION AND PROJECT SPACE “LAUD” / KUMU MUSEUM
LAUD (eng.: board) is a temporary open-air installation at the ground of the former Arts Academy of Estonia. The project’s sculptural form inspires new forms of social engagement and communication. This site-specific installation reminds us that social behavior is shaped by art and design, and vice versa. LAUD activates a cheerless vacant lot used for parking and creates alternatives for organizing art and other events. 50-metre-long concrete boards on the ground provide a space for public lectures and exhibitions. LAUD is…

Body and Space #2
With the performance I am exploring the relations between space, body and everyday objects. I am intrigued by the meaning and power that certain objects contain. Prologue: until 2010, the dutch law allowed to squat a building by someone if the space was empty and not in use. When a building was squatted, it was normal to invite the police to inspect the squat. The police checked whether the place was lived in by the squatter. In legal terms, this means there…

Body and Space #1
An exploration of co-existence of space and a human body. I am dislocating any rules by illustrating an alternative way of using this space. The work is about enjoying the body that you have in the space that surrounds it. I am fascinated by how space and objects predefine our actions. We have been taught to read the signs of objects and to behave according to the information. For that reason our movement is predictable and the body has become machinery; performing the tasks and acting…

A Day Without the Mobile Phone
We invite people to spend 24 hours without their mobile phone. The phones are hanged up on a tree in a city center where they create a light and sound installation. Our every day companion, mobile phone, gets meaningful assessment when looking at it from a distance. A Day Without the Mobile Phone is an urban intervention, including people and the media. The authors have organized it in art festivals in Estonia, Canada, Brazil and Germany. This work is part of Riin Rõõs’ MA thesis “A…

City is my home. I am free. Laundry day balances the masculine urban space.
